Introduction to Observational Drawing - Adult Beginners

This is a 6-week traveling observational drawing class for adults (18+) who want to build a strong foundation in drawing while working in outdoor public spaces in Myrtle Beach, SC. Locations will change each week, allowing participants to observe and draw from a variety of environments and viewpoints.

Each class begins with a clear set of instructions, a drawing focus for the day, and an example when applicable. Participants are encouraged to ask questions before the drawing process begins so everyone starts with a shared understanding.

Once drawing is underway, I will be present throughout the session to pause the group when needed to share relevant instruction, as well as offer one-on-one, hands on guidance as participants work. Classes will end with a short constructive criticism session to help teach the participants how to receive suggestions on a piece of work as well as how to respectfully offer constructive suggestions to other artists. While the class is designed to be calming and enjoyable, it is skills-based and instructional, focused on helping participants build a strong foundation in drawing so that they can continue to develop in the future. You won't leave with a grade, but you will leave feeling more confident in your ability to draw from sight.

Materials Required 

participants should bring

• 14"x17" sketchbook 
• Pencil
• White Eraser
• Black Sharpie (regular tip)
• Weather appropriate clothing

Optional 

• Blanket or cushion for sitting outdoors
• portable chair or lap desk

Please note: Classes often take place in areas without formal seating or tables. Public seating is first-come, first-served.
