Description:
The Hanged Man captures the suspended moment before irreversible change - the psychological stillness that occurs when a decision has already been made internally, but not yet acted upon.
Rooted in the symbolism of the tarot archetype, this work explores sacrifice not as confidence or heroism, but as fear, hesitation, and the quiet terror of committing to an unknown outcome. Rendered in stark black and white, the composition emphasizes polarity: safety versus risk, logic versus intuition, staying versus leaving. There is no middle ground - only the pause between paths.
The figure hangs inverted from a tree above a winding path that disappears into dense forest. The landscape is drawn from a real location, grounding the work in lived experience rather than abstraction. The inversion reflects the internal disorientation of this moment - when the "correct" choice feels wrong, and the wrong choice feels inevitable.
This piece is not about clarity. It is about the absence of it. It speaks to the moment when contemplation has ended, time has run out and trust in oneself is tested without reassurance or guarantees.
Additional Notes:
This piece is printed on metal with a rear float mount, creating the illusion that the work hovers slightly off the wall. The presentation enhances the sense of suspension and stillness central to the work.
